Marathon Airport is Closing Their Runway, and Summerland Key Airport is Gearing Up to Help!
From August 18th - October 7th of 2025, Marathon Airport is closing their runway and airport to all fixed-wing operations in order to reconstruct their runway. Unfortunately, this time period falls in the middle of peak hurricane season. That means any aircraft still at Marathon Airport on August 18th will not be able to leave if there is a hurricane that requires evacuation.
Summerland Key Airport is installing new tie-downs to host up to 40 additional General Aviation pilots and aircraft from Marathon Airport in order to ensure these pilots retain the ability to operate and to evacuate with their aircraft, if necessary.

Prior to operating from Summerland Key Airport, owners/operators will need to fill out the application below, read and agree to abide by our Standard Operating Procedures and provide the Airport Manager with a Certificate of Insurance naming Summerland Key Cove Airport Company as Additional Insured.

In recognition of the inconvenience our fellow aviators at Marathon Airport will experience with this runway reconstruction, Summerland Key Airport is heavily discounting our landing license rates, and the landing license to facilitate operations from Summerland Key Airport and an assigned tiedown from August 1st through October 31st - to account for the likely delay in the the runway reconstruction schedule due to a hurricane and/or other complication - will be $750 for one aircraft, one tiedown and one pilot.
The Summerland Key Airport Manager will keep in contact with the Marathon Airport Manager and make an ongoing assessment regarding such a delay. If the runway reconstruction goes beyond October 31st, Summerland Key Airport will readdress the costs for continued operation and tiedown at Summerland Key Airport.

We are working with MillionAir FBO to establish a temporary 100LL fueling capability at Summerland Key Airport for the duration of the Marathon runway closure, but no promises on that just yet.

Please fill out the form below, and contact the Summerland Key Airport Manager either by phone or email about payment to secure your position on our list on a first-paid-first-served basis. Unfortunately, installing all these tie-downs on relatively short notice to enable our airport to host and support our fellow aviators in their time of need isn't free.
